Scientific Conference of the Foundation, June 2008 |

The Research Foundation of the University Hospital La Fe held yesterday the "Scientific Conference: 2008" at 1pm at the meeting hall of hospital's main building. The meeting was inaugurated by Pilar Viedma, Director General of the Management, Assessment and Research of the Regional Health Ministry. Afterwards, the Director of the Research Foundation, José Vicente Castell, put forward the scientific milestones of 2007 and future action plans of the. The master lecture titled "Health Sciencies University: an alternative model", was carried out by Prof. Ciril Rozman, Professor of Internal Medicine (emeritus) at the University of Barcelona. At the end of the meeting, the Manager of the Departamento de Salud 7-La Fe, Melchor Hoyos talked about the key points of the Functional Plan of the Research Area in the new Hospital La Fe. |

Professor Ciril Rozman is one of the most relevant personalities of Internal Medicine. He has focused his research in Hematology, field in which he is considered one of the most important worldwide experts in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. His implication in the therapeutics of hematological malignacies has focused on bone marrow transplantation. He performed the first allogeneic transplant in Spain. |

‘Communicate Science and Communicate it well' Workshop, March 2008 |

The Research Foundation of the Hospital La Fe, held on March 10, 2008 a workshop titled “Communicate Science and Communicate it well”, organised together with the University of Valencia, the University Cardenal Herrera-CEU and Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research. Scientists and journalists specialised in Scientific Journalism exchanged their different points of view giving place to a knowledge platform. Scientific and Journalism experts were present at the workshop: Vladimir de Semir, Malén Ruiz de Elvira, José María Fernández Rúz, Vicente Rubio, José Pío Beltrán, María José Masip, Carlos Pajuelo, Pilar del Burgo, José García and María Pilar Muñoz.

Dr. Vladimir de Semir was in charge of the opening conference. Dr. De Semir, Associate Professor in Science Journalism and Director of the Scientific Communication Observatory at the Pompeu Fabra University, is Director of the Scientific, Environmental and Medical Journalism Master's Degree of the Continuing Education Institute (UPF), created in 1993 and Commissioner for Scientific Culture of Barcelona's Town Hall (2003-2008). . |

I y II Communication workshop |

During the 25 th and 26 th of February the Research Foundation of Hospital La Fe has carried out a workshop addressed to health staff under the title of “Communicate Science and Communicate it well” . The workshop is within the project Communicate Science and Communicate it well granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. The aim of the course is the creation of a common communication platform between scientists and journalists in order to bring together knowledge from both parties and improve the information known by Society concerning biomedical knowledge.

‘The ABC's of Biomedical Spin-offs' conference, January 2008 |

The Research Foundation of the Hospital La Fe held on January 18, 2008 a conference titled “The ABC's of biomedical spin-offs” which was organised together with the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia. A large number of people from the hospital and other research and health centres of Spain were present at the conference. Expert such as: Fernando Conesa, Eladio Crego, Ignasi Costa, Manuel Alonso, Ana Cortés or Manuel Reina put forward their knowledge, reflections, and experiences about Biomedical Spin-offs. The topics tackled at the conference were: Why and for what the need of a spin-off?; when and how to create a spin-off?; legal framework regulating a spin-off, how does an academic spin-off appear? ; what relationship should there be between a spin-off and the mother company?; the key to success of a spin-off, and the round table on the financial resources to its creation. |
